Food Review: Kanto Freestyle Kapitolyo Branch

A lot of people has been raving about "Kanto Freestyle". Now what is with this food joint and all of the people are talking about it.

The first time I heard about it was with my cousin.  She told me that the theme was all day breakfast open 24 hours and they serve good quality food and it's a good value for money.

I wasn't buying all the hype since the branch that they knew was situated in Mandaluyong, I was also kind of skeptic on cheap prices with good value for money food.  Next person who mentioned this joint to me was my youngest brother, he advised that he and his friends would always dine there after a night out when all of their moolah's were gone and they only have a couple of bucks to spare.

Enough of the small talk, so I was able to visit the Kapitolyo branch on Sunday morning around 1 am with my #TropangKape group, after a coffee chilltime at Starbucks Metrowalk we were off to the said place.

It was not hard to find the place, me being from Pasig, I got there fairly quick. If you are coming from Shaw or Capitol Commons, just enter the Kapitolyo gate then the first right turn then the next left turn and you'll see the spot.

The place looked like an old house turned to a dining place, like any other joint there in Kapitolyo. The scenery there is just like a little bit upscale Karinderia "Food Stall" with a good vibe. Now, without further delay, let's go with the entree'.

The menu, it was very short and simple, breakfast food with a twist.  Now, i'm not very fond of their menu, physically. Mainly, because you can't even read what's on the menu, it's like its been passed from one branch to another.  The crew was accomodating but I think they still need practice when listening to the customer's orders and requests in short to pay more attention.

So, my friends ordered the "best seller" Batangas Beef Tapa" to which it did came with 2 eggs your choice if it's going to be sunny side up or scrambled.  One tomato with olive basil pesto and fried rice.  Typical breakfast, I love the tomatoes that came along with it, I had a taste of the tapa it's carmelized and a little salty for me, but it's alright, nothing really that I would say wow but its something that i'll eat for it's price after a night out with friends.  My friends didn't like it but for me i'd give it a good 3 out of 5.

Next stop, Pork Belly same story with fried rice, tomatoes and eggs.  I personally didn't like it and so as my friends, it was like pork friend the nth time, maybe we just got a bad product that day, but it definately didn't make us happy that night. Rating would be a 1 out of 5.

We also ordered the pancakes, fluffed one's and the one with eggs and bacon, just right nothing fancy.  Just looks like the one in the box from the groceries, i'd say 2 out of 5 for this.

Lastly, my order, I asked my brother what he already tried in this place, he told me the Garlic Chicken is yumm-o, but I got confused when I saw the Tuyo with Kesong Puti now that's something different right.  So, I ended up ordering the two viands with both entree's being less than 100 pesos why not try both in my opinion.

I got the Tuyo with Keson Puti first, it's just a small piece of the cheese on top of the strips with tuyo and i would supposed some type of oil, then I had my eggs scrambled and the tomatoes and that.  I liked it, just typical simple breakfast, I didn't like their vinegar though as its not sour, what's a vinegar that's not sour huh?! Well everyone has their own taste.  I'd rate it a good 4 as it has a good balance and for 95 pesos, not bad it's a complete set.

Lastly, the other best seller, the Garlic Chicken, the piece is big a whole quarter (leg and thigh), and it was deep fried I would say with some type of carmelized garlicky tasting blend to it, the chicken was cooked through and everyone agreed I chose the right sets, lol. :) It did came with fried rice and tomatoes with basil and garlic sauce but no eggs. The garlic sauce was nice but not that great that passes my top 10's but it complimented the chicken. I'd give it a good 4 out of 5.  For it's price (95), it's worth it.

Overall, I would not kill this joint, I'd say you get what you paid for. It's just a simple place to eat that you can also at home. It's also a nice go to place when you are hungry in the middle of night or maybe going home from a gig, shift or party and it will fill you out. :)

Thanks for reading my blog, please do comment below on what you think about it and how was your experience if you have already dined here.  Do let me know too what places you would like me to try soon. :)
